Japanese walnuts are fast growing trees similar to butternut in form and habits. The nuts are thick shelled, and sometimes shaped like pointy spiky footballs, sometimes like small english walnuts, and sometimes they are in the shape of a perfect heart. They crack out very easily into two halves with a good nut cracker. The heartnut tree is a variety of the Japanese walnut species. It makes nuts in a beautiful heart shape and cracks out very easily with a good nutcracker. ~Description from Twisted Tree Farms
